10-year-old and Younger (Heads Up Style/Single
Round Tournament): 8:30 am – 11:30 am
11-17-year-old (Elimination Bracket Tournament):
12:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Entry fee: $40 first child per family
$30 each additional child per family

and 40 spots available for the afternoon session, so register soon!!!

The morning will start with kata competition for
the 10-year-old and younger group.
In performing their kata, your student will be
able show off their speed, balance, and grace in performing one of the many
kata (an established set of movements simulating a fight against multiple
opponents) that they have learned in the last year. They will be performing in
the ring, side by side with their competitor, in a safe, but competitive format.
All competitors will also have the opportunity
to compete in kumite, a form of point sparring to show their punching, kicking,
and blocking techniques! For both sessions, contact to the head will not
be scored and will be deemed a foul. Competitors are judged on speed, focus,
and timing, with control of their techniques being the priority for
scoring points in matches. The dojo will supply head gear, chest protectors
and mitts, but you are welcome to supply your own protective gear.
Competitors are encouraged to wear a mouth guard.
For the 10-year-old and younger group (8:30am
– 11:30am session) both kata and kumite will be a single round of
engagement to determine podium placement. All participants during the
morning session will receive a trophy for kumite and a medal for kata!
For the 11–17-year-old group (12:30pm – 3:30pm
Session), the students will be participating in a more formal elimination
style bracket tournament for both kata and kumite, where participants work
their way through a competition ladder by winning matches. Trophies and
medals will only be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place.
The WSA staff will attempt to pair competitors
based on physical size, age, and rank, working within the limitations of the
registration pool.
Tournament competition builds pride, esteem, and
is a lot of fun for both the kids and the parents!
We look forward to hosting this prestigious and
challenging event and would encourage early registration as spaces will be
limited.
